Hydration |
As you approach the higher parts of the mountain, you should be consuming increasing quantities of water - up to 4 or five litres per day. This will help your boday perform, but will also help against AMS. |
Nutrition |
You need to consume plenty of calories. Bear in mind that at night time you should be consuming slow burning complex carbs, shilst during the day you will be looking for faster burning items to give you a more immediate lift. It is recommended to avoid caffeine whilst on the mountain. |
Sun |
Be careful of sunburn, and also sunstroke. Protect yourself sully, by covering up, and slapping on plenty of cream. |
Altitude |
See section later on altitude - use side navigation bar....> |
Gastric Illnesses |
Ensure that everything you eat is well cooked, or washed in clean, purified water. Make sure you wash your hands regularly, and make sure all water whilst on the mountain is purified. Don't take any chances... |
Knees / Hips |
Walking poles may well save your life... at least they might avoid a twisted knee - which could really slow down your descent - the last thing you want. Once you've been to the top - the main thing you'll be thinking about is the bottom! That clean shower, and that cold beer... walking poles will take some of the load from your knees and hips.... so think about it! Also think about knee support bandages as a precautionary measure... |
