Cycle Mallorca Round the Island
This ride is the perfect blend of sublime roads, stunning scenery and great weather. Come and ride Europe's cycling Mecca this year. You will cycle for three days along a beautiful, smooth and fast route, as well as having awesome overnight facilities and the tastiest local cuisine!
Our ride takes in stunning coastal riding, beautiful back country lanes dappled in Mediterranean Sunshine, with citrus fruits overhanging as we pedal, and of course, the most fantastic and challenging climbs on the island. If you’re looking for an enjoyable and worry-free experience, look no further. Leave everything to us and our leaders will ensure that your every wish and requirement is catered for.
Day 1 - Fly from UK to Palma. Transfer to Playa de Palma (Latest arrival 14:00) to join bicycles, and short afternoon ride through the back lanes of Mallorca to warm up the legs (Approx 58km) Overnight in hotel with excellent local meal in a good quality restaurant.
Day 2 - Ride - On our first day we ride the scenic open and gently undulating roads of the South, East and North perimeters of the island enjoying a leg stretching 135km riding before day's 2 and 3 and the mountains. The roads are peaceful, and we touch on the coast several times, before our final ride into the ancient and perfectly preserved walled town of Alcudia. Our hotel is inside the city walls amongst the cobbled streets. We have a short walk to dinner in a quiet back street, at Alcudia's finest restaurant. A tasty Tapas dinner awaits :-)
Day 3 - Ride - Approx 90km - Here we go - into some of the most thrilling cycling terrain in Europe. The winding apshalt of the Mallorca Tramuntana mountains promise to entertain as well as test you - today we ride the Col de Femenia, the spectaular 'Sa Calobra', often the highlight of most cyclists visiting Mallorca... and finally the Puig Major climb, before a beautiful descent into the sunny bay of Soller. Our hotel is on the seafront, in a prime position overlooking the bay. (Option Available to extend day's riding for keen riders) We may decide to eat in, or wander along the front to one of many great restaurants
Day 4 - Ride - Approx 60km - A compact day of riding awaits (Approx 40 miles), to return us from Soller, over the Tramuntana, via the beautiful villages of Deia and Valdemosa , and back via Palma City to Playa de Palma. We'll take an early tea, a couple of rooms will be available for you to get showered, and then its back on the plane back home once more, with strong legs, reinvigorated lungs, and ready for anything! Please book flights for after 15:30 departure, or why not think about staying for another night? (For those heading back a day later, you may consider an extra few miles in the afternoon)
Good quality 3 star comfortable hotel accommodation, based on twin sharing, bed and breakfast basis.
What is a Level 3.5 Cycling Challenge Like?
These challenge rides are either longer, with more ascent, or span several days. In the case of single day events, you can expect up to 10 hours cycling. In the case of a multi day ride, you can expect lower daily durations - but of course - the effort is sustained over a longer period. You need to be a keen cyclist for these events, and to enjoy training, and to ride regularly. If the ride is outside the EU, it is likely to be easier in terms of the physical riding, however, you will need to be more resilient - due to more basic living conditions (in the case of Asia / Africa especially)
How Fit Do I need to be to join a Level 3.5 ‘Bike Ride’?
You need to have good endurance for these events. You must be used to doing long rides in the countryside - 6 hours + . You should be doing regular exercise - with some serious cycle training. Your typical comfortable cycling speed will be at least 22-24 km/hr, and you should be able to cycle at high speed for up to 1 hour or 25 km. You may also be concentrating on other types of exercise - but for longer periods of time (ie sessions in excess of 1.5 hrs.) - however cycling is the best preparation (obviously!)
If you have any serious medical condition - you MUST check your suitability to participate, with your GP. Please ask the office at Adventure Cafe if you in any doubt - 01823 444 246
On booking this adventure you are signing up for the ride, the leadership, and the support of an experienced and helpful crew - who will endeavour to lead you safely and reliably. You will have an an experienced cycling leader, as well as an experienced support driver / bike mechanic and First Aider. It is very important that you are at a suitable (as specified) fitness level - as a very wide spread of fitness levels is difficult to manage on the road safely and smoothly. In the case of someone being well below the correct fitness level, they may be asked to jump in the vehicle - in order that overall the team is well supported.
