Zurich Milan Cycle Event

Bike Adventure

Get ready for a classic European Bike Adventure - crossing borders, enjoying the best continental cuisine, and riding through some historic towns and cities, as well as through beautiful countryside - Lake Zurich, Urnersee, San Gottard Pass, Neufenen Pass, Brig, Simplon Pass (one of the Alps most historic and oldest), Locarno and Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano, Lake Como and into Milan a ride of 3 days. This is a classic voyage crossing the Alps from Switzerland to Italy.

Our route starts out from beside Lake Zurich and once we leave the lake behind we head for the Alps and some serious climbing with (10000mtrs in total) Gotthard Pass (2109m), Nufenen Pass (2478m) and the Simplon Pass (2005m) await over days 1 and 2. Day 3 we  ride into Milan having covered around 450km, not a bad pedal! Well done team!

Itinerary

Day 1 - Fly from UK to Zurich - build bikes up and transfer to hotel for overnight, and evening briefing on the challenge ahead.

Day 2 - Zurich to Airolo (Cycle 140km) - Depart from Zurich, we follow the lake before winding our way up our first climb, the infamous Gotthard Pass (altitude 2109m)

Day 3 - Airolo to Locarno (Cycle 170km) - We really get stuck in to the meat of the ride here. We climb to our maximum altitude on the trip Nufenen Pass (2478m) before we tackle the Simplon Pass (2005m).

Day 4 - Loacarno to Milan (Cycle 140km) - Today is a much flatter (and easier!) day - we ride past the stunning Lake Como before taking the ferry accross the lake to visit the Madonna del Ghisallo declared the patroness of cyclists, here we take a breath to visit the small cycling museum with photos and artifacts from the sport. There also burns an eternal flame for cyclists who have died. One particularly notable artifact is the crumpled bicycle that Fabio Casartelli, a native of the region, rode on the day that he died in a crash in the Tour de France.

From here we head to our final destination Milan Hopefully we shall arrive in good time for a little R&R and to enjoy fine Italian cuisine and a well earned celebration on completion of our challenge!

Day 5 - Return flight from Milan to the UK - well done team!

Notes on Cycling Events

This is our standard range of Cycling Challenges in the UK, Europe and further afield. However, we offer completely tailormade itineraries to your specification. Call us to discuss! Please note that for overseas point to point cycling challenges we can transport soft cases for bike transport - but not hard cases, due to space limitations on board our support vehicles. On all our cycling events, please pack sensibly and bring a reasonably sized soft holdall type bag. To participate in an overseas Adventure Cafe challenge - you must carry Travel Insurance (to be for the activity you are participating in, and to include repatriation to the UK). Please also note that you should have a good level of cycling experience and be competent to handle your bike. We ride on roads shared with other vehicles - and you need to be able to deal with this safely.
