Ride London to Bonn Germany 5 Countries

Bike Adventure

Come and experience an epic slice of European Cycling, as we head from Twickenham through England, France, Belgium, Holland and into Germany where we reach our grand finale in Bonn. Experiencing the beautiful historic city centres, a wide array of countryside, canalside riding, and even a crossing of the fringe of the Ardennes. Our next running of this trip will be an exclusive adventure, setting off in February 2019.

Provisional Itineray and Notes for the next trip:

We shall be riding en mass from Twickenham to Canterbury, with a big team of one day riders, who will return to London at the end of the day. From here we shall head to Dover, cross the channel to Dunkerque. Day 2's riding begins as we disembark the ferry, riding through France and enter Belgium and finishing in the "Venice of the North" Brugges. On day 3 we ride East out to Maastricht, via the fringes of the Ardennes, and then across the final border and into Germany to the mighty Rhine, and the old capital of former West Germany.

What is a Level 3.5 Cycling Challenge Like?

These challenge rides are either longer, with more ascent, or span several days. In the case of single day events, you can expect up to 10 hours cycling. In the case of a multi day ride, you can expect lower daily durations - but of course - the effort is sustained over a longer period. You need to be a keen cyclist for these events, and to enjoy training, and to ride regularly. If the ride is outside the EU, it is likely to be easier in terms of the physical riding, however, you will need to be more resilient - due to more basic living conditions (in the case of Asia / Africa especially)

How Fit Do I need to be to join a Level 3.5 ‘Bike Ride’?

You need to have good endurance for these events. You must be used to doing long rides in the countryside - 6 hours + . You should be doing regular exercise - with some serious cycle training. Your typical comfortable cycling speed will be at least 22-24 km/hr, and you should be able to cycle at high speed for up to 1 hour or 25 km. You may also be concentrating on other types of exercise - but for longer periods of time (ie sessions in excess of 1.5 hrs.) - however cycling is the best preparation (obviously!)

Equipment Required

Bike - Road Bike or Hybrid, set up for winter riding conditions. We recommend durable winter tyres, and mud guards can make wet-weather riding more comfortable for yourself and for others! Please call us in the office for further advice on suitable winter bike set up.

Helmet - Compulsory for all rides

Lights - Due to the shorter days and potential for overcast weather, we recommend fitting bike lights ( front and rear) for this trip

Saddle/Tool Bag - Containing 2x spare inner tubes, tyre levers, puncture patches, multitool & hand pump ( fitted to the frame or carried in a pocket)

Water Bottles - At least 1x750ml or 2x 500ml, which we will top up along the rides.

Protective eyewear -  Clear or lightly tinted lenses, glasses with interchangeable lenses are perfect

Warm Cycle Clothing - Padded cycle tights (or leggings worn over padded cycle shorts), long sleeve base layer, long sleeve cycle jersey/jacket - for 6 days of riding.  Plus long fingered gloves, thick socks, waterproof overshoes, scull cap or buff  (under helmet), and a good waterproof jacket is essential.

Hi-Vis  - due to the lower light conditions at this time of year, we strongly recommend that all riders wear a brightly coloured, hi-vis and/or reflective outer layer on the rides.

Wash Kit - Your usual toiletries plus any personal medical supplies you'll require during the trip. Additional Items for cycling comfort might include chamois cream and painkillers.

Casual Clothing - comfortable clothing to wear during your time off the bike, and for the journey to/from the event.

Other Essentials  - Passport, Wallet, Phone & Charger, Bike Computer & Charger, EHIC card

Notes on Cycling Events

This is our standard range of Cycling Challenges in the UK, Europe and further afield. However, we offer completely tailormade itineraries to your specification. Call us to discuss! Please note that for overseas point to point cycling challenges we can transport soft cases for bike transport - but not hard cases, due to space limitations on board our support vehicles. On all our cycling events, please pack sensibly and bring a reasonably sized soft holdall type bag. To participate in an overseas Adventure Cafe challenge - you must carry Travel Insurance (to be for the activity you are participating in, and to include repatriation to the UK). Please also note that you should have a good level of cycling experience and be competent to handle your bike. We ride on roads shared with other vehicles - and you need to be able to deal with this safely.
