HochAlpenStrasse Cycle Challenge Slovenia Austria

Bike Adventure

Lakes, pretty, historic towns and cities, the romance of the crossroads of central Europe at the historic frontier between east and west, this is a ride steeped in natural majesty and fascinating history at every turn. The mountains start in Slovenia, and continue right through into Austria - culminating with the towering Grossglockner. Our ride has once last surprise then, as we swoop down into Bavaria and ride beneath the infamous Eagle's nest, before we ride the last few kilometres into Salzburg.

Hi ho, hi ho, its off to the mountains we go! This is a sublime ride through the incredible Julian Alps of Slovenia followed by the Hohe Tauern range and the amazing High Alpine Road across Austria's most famous mountain pass. But this ride also takes in the pretty and unique capital of Slovenia, as well as Lake Bled and its fairytale castle and then the adventure villages of Bovec and Kranjska Gora, before crossing into the Hohe Tauern mountains and up to Heiligenblut - before crossing the mighty Grossglockener and then screaming down for a brief visit into Bavaria and to our end at Salzburg. This is a perfect slice of some lesser visited mountains of Europe, and a peak into a wonderful set and secret landscapes. Don't be fooled, whilst this isn't the French Alps, the Pyrenees or the Dolomites, these mountains pack a punch - especially the little known Vrsic Pass and the Wurzen Pass into Austria. Make sure you get some hill training in!

Notes on Cycling Events

This is our standard range of Cycling Challenges in the UK, Europe and further afield. However, we offer completely tailormade itineraries to your specification. Call us to discuss! Please note that for overseas point to point cycling challenges we can transport soft cases for bike transport - but not hard cases, due to space limitations on board our support vehicles. On all our cycling events, please pack sensibly and bring a reasonably sized soft holdall type bag. To participate in an overseas Adventure Cafe challenge - you must carry Travel Insurance (to be for the activity you are participating in, and to include repatriation to the UK). Please also note that you should have a good level of cycling experience and be competent to handle your bike. We ride on roads shared with other vehicles - and you need to be able to deal with this safely.
