Chudleigh Climbing Sessions

Climb Adventure

Climbing at the beautiful, tranquil and exciting Chudleigh Rocks in Devon. The Rocks are peacefully tucked away on the fringes of Dartmoor, away from the hustle and bustle of Exeter - but some of the routes here are anything but tranquil! Be ready for a tough and challenging weekend - pushing yourself as far as you are willing to go! This session is modular - from 2 hours to a full weekend - just let us know what you'd like to do. Pricing is according to the duration of your session.

This weekend will see you exploring the range of vertical faces of Chudleigh Rocks. There are several small crags here and a range of climbing possibilities - as well as some other interesting locations close by. We shall be rotating climbing - as none of us will be able to climb solidly all day - and you will need to belay for a climbing partner during the day (you will work in pairs). There will also be time for lunch, and time for a tea break here and there - in one of the village's well known coffee hang outs!

Itinerary

Saturday - Meet at 09:00 in Chudleigh Village, assemble, initial briefing and get out onto crags. Start with some warm up exercises - and briefings on putting on harness, helmet, tying in and general safety information. Then progress on to climbing easy routes, and hopefully progress as day proceeds. Some routes will be short technical routes, others longer but easier with top ropes set. Your leader will discuss mechanics of climbing with you during the session.

This session is completely modular - and is designed to accommodate up to 6 persons at a time. You may book in for any length of session from 2 hours to the whole weekend. The instructor will move locations during the day - meaning that you get to try different routes if you are spending the whole day at the crag.

What is a Level 2.0 Climbing Challenge Like?

These activities are either climbing, abseiling, caving, or multiactivity. They are moving up in intensity from beginner level, and will require a higher level of fitness. You will need the appropriate specific fitness - probably requiring good flexibility in the case of climbing or caving. Most itineraries in this category require some degree of upper body strength - especially in the case of open canoeing at 2 star level.

How Fit Do I need to be to join a Level 2.0 ‘Climbing Challenge’?

You must be active and with moderate fitness level. You should be taking regular exercise, consisting of regular walks and possibly other sports (swimming / football etc.) You should be comfortable in undertaking long country walks of up to 5 or 6 hours or 15 miles in the lowland English countryside, or maybe bike rides of 3-4 hours.

Medical Issues

Please note, it is extremely important for this physical challenge that you are in good health. If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, please consider carefully whether you should be joining the challenge. Please ensure you fill in the booking form accurately and honestly, this is important. In the case of serious conditions (epilepsy, diabetes, heart conditions, recent illness or operations), please discuss the challenge with your GP. Please also ensure you notify us of any allergies or similar.

It requires stamina and good aerobic fitness - but good willpower will also come in handy! Failure to disclose medical conditions is a serious omission - that could have serious repercussions on any of our challenges.
